Stozhary

About

The Stozhary Theatre is a group of actors looking to express themselves creatively on the amateur stage of the Ukrainian National Federation (UNO) in Montreal.

Drawing inspiration from Ukrainian classics, the theatre’s productions have included comedies by Gogol (2012), The night before Christmas and Sorochynsky Fair, and a drama, Kaidash’s Family, based on the novel by I. Nechuy-Levytsky (2013). More contemporary dramas like Wall (2015), based on a play by Olga Onyshchenko, explored the events of the Revolution of Dignity (Maidan) in Ukraine. Carrying on the wonderful tradition started by the I. Kotlyarevsky Ukrainian Student Drama club at UNO, Stozhary presented Spanish Fly, a comedy based on a play by Ernst Bach and Arnold Schwartz (2016).

Stozhary Theater is socially active in their local communities and supports many charity events, concerts and exhibitions. The theatre’s current project consists of a series of workshops called “Adaptation”, which were organized in order to provide psychological support to community members following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Since the beginning of the war in 2014, the Stozhary Theater has been actively involved in providing aid to Ukraine and is transferring all funds raised to the Committee for Help to Ukraine.
